5th Annual ADLER PADDLER | MARCH 22nd, 2015

It’s coming, the 5th Annual ADLER PADDLER.
PADDLERS MUST HAVE PFDs ON BOARD OR PERSON OR LIFEGUARDS COULD PROHIBIT YOU FROM RACING!!
You can pre register on PADDLE GURU
You can reserve a Board & Paddle Rental in exchange for a donation here: SPINLISTER to use the day of the Race. (Limited Number) You can also bring an extra board to the race to add it to the SPINLISTER rental database and your rental fee will be donated straight to the cause!
This is a free race and we’d love to keep it that way. Last year we had such a great turnout that the city has more than doubled our fees. However, they have been very accommodating and with the help of Councilwoman Suzie Price’s office were were able to get a little break on the increase. We are on the hook for $1836.00 ($1254.00 Permit & Lifeguards + $250 US SAILING CENTER + $332 Liability Insurance)
Last year we were able to donate $6499.00 to the John Ritter Foundation For Aortic Health after expenses. We are hoping to write JRF an even bigger check this year but that’s going to take a huge group effort and we are challenging everyone to help us make it happen!!!
This event isn’t just about raising money for such a great organization but it’s also about encouraging people to understand and gain awareness of their family history. First-degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) of a person who has, or has had, a thoracic aortic aneurysm and/or dissection can have a higher chance to develop an aneurysm. Our goal as an event is to help prevent premature deaths due to thoracic aortic disease by creating more public awareness of this disease.
Of course this event is also always about coming together as a group of friends, strangers, fellow paddlers, and families to remember our good friend STEVE ADLER and celebrate the sport of Stand Up Paddling.
We are always looking for Volunteers and Raffle Donations so please contact info@thesupspot.com if you are interested in getting involved!
We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!

What an amazing turn out for the 3rd Annual Adler Paddler! We were overwhelmed by how many people showed up and how generous everyone was! Together we raised nearly TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! This is the most we have raised in the 3 years of the event! We will be able to make a great contribution to the John Ritter Foundation. The Adler Paddler is a free event and it wouldn’t be possible without our amazing Volunteers & Sponsors.
Big thanks to Scott Durzo for capturing photos from the day. If you ever have any photography needs feel free to reach out to him. He has been so generous with his time for the past 3 years of the Adler Paddler, as well as Steve’s memorial paddle out in 2010. scottdurzo@mac.com Scott also brought out first year college student volunteer videographer Chris Macias who filmed and is editing a short piece from the day as well as his friend/photographer John Arenas. Instagramer Justin @justinslens also gave up his Sunday to capture the Adler Paddler through his lens, (photos to come).
Thanks to the “main Adler Paddler team”: Jodie (who won’t thank herself, so Jenny snuck in here to do it) who puts her heart and soul into this event to honor and remember her friend Steve. She works tirelessly to carry on Steve’s legacy and encourage everyone to get out on the water and live life!! Jenny & Mike Penjoyan from Penjoyan Produce & Growers Ranch for all their volunteer time, the fruit donations, and the use of the truck. Robert Howson from Harbour Surfboards for his time, sweat, and stress as Race Director – without you we’d really be lost! Billy Kho for being our all-around superman! And to Farris Hamid who helped by hookins us up with his pal Simone who donated his time and boat for the safety of all the paddleboarders! Of course Actress, Amy Yasbeck founder of the John Ritter Foundation for coming out and supporting the event, as well as the entire ADLER family!
To all of the companies that contributed: Hurley H20 for the Adler Paddler T-shirt printing donation, the Poster & Flyer printing donation, as well as the many raffle donations. Riviera Paddlesurf for the SUP board donation. Quickblade Paddles for donating 3 killer SUP paddles. Nike for donating 6 Nike Fuel bands. Globe and Dwindle for the skateboard donations. Ripcurl & O’Neill for the 2 wetsuit donations. Nixon for the watches, Sabre for the sunglass donations, Futures for the fin donations, On A Mission for donating leashes, paddle bags, and T-Shirts. Hinano for the shirts, hats, and paddle bag donations, SeaLegs Wine bar for the Gift certificate donation. Bark Paddleboards for coming out to support the event since year one! Westwinds Sailing for the gift certificate donation. Roark Clothing, Supra Footwear, and RVCA for your donations! Land Shark Lager for your support and donations. Thomas Gallagher Chiropractor for bringing some extra boards for donation rentals. Cirivellos Sport Stop for Donating sandwiches for the bake sale. Wahoo’s for the free taco coupons. Matty Mitchell for lending us the sound equipment, the NAC for lending us race tools, The City of Long Beach, US Sailing Center, and of course a huge shout out to JoAnn Adams at Bogarts Coffee House in Seal Beach for donating coffee for the past 3 years of the Adler Paddler! Thank You!!! Last but not least a huge thank you to ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS!!! We could not do this with out you all – you know who you are – and we’ll be calling you next year!! And if you’d like to get involved next year, please reach out to us! Info@PaddleWithPurpose.org
Together we all made a huge difference and not only did we have fun and get some really cool t-shirts and raffle prizes……. We collectively raised nearly TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS all in the memory of our sweet friend Steve Adler!!!!! That is a huge accomplishment! The 3rd Annual ADLER PADDLER will be on St. Patricks Day once again. This year we are adding the option to do a long course or a short course. The long course will be 5.6 miles (two laps around Naples). The short course will be the same one lap that we have done the past two years, which is 2.8 miles. Because of the notorious bad weather the past two years we have rented space at the US SAILING CENTER which is just north of Leeway Beach. If the weather is bad we will be handling race check in inside the facility as well as the post race raffle. Look for us to be set up closer to the south just North of the US SAILING CENTER.

On August 10th Dave Cornthwite set out to swim 1000 miles between Chamberlain, South Dakota and St Louis, Missouri. Dave will be towing all of his gear with him on a carbon fibre raft and he will be escorted by a support team of 6 Stand Up Paddlers that will do the entire trek by his side. Paddle with Purpose had the pleasure of meeting Dave during the Trestles to TJ paddle. On that paddle we learned about the journey that Dave and his team was about to take on. Dave’s mission is perfectly aligned with Paddle With Purpose’s mission statement and we wanted to support Dave and Team as we are all hoping to help the group raise 100,000 pounds for UK-based breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! 50 days, 20 miles a day. 1 man swimming 1000 miles, 6 people paddling 1000 miles. Stay tuned for updates on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube from beginning to end.
Paddle With Purpose is helping to supply Dave with Swim Caps, we pledge to help spread the word, and we are contributing funds to help the team with their social media push. Please help us spread the word in getting the team to their fundraising goal! Paddle With Purpose will join Dave towards the end of his journey the end of September to see him to the finish line! GO DAVE GO! Did we mention that the Missouri River is one of the dirtiest stretches of river in North America? Let’s hope he can stay strong and healthy along the way!

Paddle With Purpose and Keep A Breast Foundationare proud to make this dream come true for Megan as she makes her stand against cancer and dedicates this crossing to the memory of her sister.
. This years #M2O is getting some great press as pro surfers Rob Machado and Joel Parkinson are both doing the crossing for the first time before they head to Huntington beach for the #USOPENOFSURF
